Si Ri Panya News Highlights

Welcome to our Friday May 16th Newsletter.

Welcome to this week’s newsletter, where we share highlights and happenings from across the school. From classroom moments to special events, here’s a glimpse into the vibrant life of our school community. We hope you enjoy the read!

PACS Microscope Presentation Assembly

Over the last two terms, our charity committee, comprised of students from across the school organised several popular movie nights. While those evenings are indeed about entertainment and having fun with our friends, they do serve as really important ways for our school to contribute to causes that positively impact our island community.

One charity that is especially close to our hearts in PACS and in today's assembly, we presented them with a brand new microscope, which you contributed to while purchasing your child's movie tickets. Well done everyone!

Mindfulness Sky Sketching, Year 4

Such a beautiful way for our Year 4 students to connect with the present moment—sketching the sky and journaling their thoughts, sights, and sounds. A perfect blend of attention to the moment and creativity!

Road Safety Day

Last Friday the whole school took part in our first Road Safety Day, learning about different ways that we can keep ourselves safe when we are traveling or walking near roads.

For the first part of the day, Year 6 joined the Secondary School for a special assembly about understanding the risks of riding motorbikes, and all the things that we can do to keep ourselves safer. The students already had lots of knowledge to share about their understanding of the dangers, and together we discussed all the things we can do to help protect us and others.

We then talked in more detail about helmets and how much of a difference they can make, including a practical experiment to understand how much of a difference wearing a helmet can make in an accident. The results were impressive! We also had a visit from some local bikers who had a simple message for our students - wearing helmets is cool, and doesn't stop us from having fun!

Using a watermelon to demonstrate the potential results of an impact when not wearing a helmet

For the rest of the day, the Primary school practised crossing the road safely, using the simple Stop, Look, Listen rule. Every class from Year 1 upwards did a fantastic job: many of them learning a short song to help them remember all three steps, and then practised in the playground before putting their skills to the test on the road. If you want to practise the song at home too, HERE is a link - be careful, it's very catchy! HERE is a version with the hand gestures too for the little ones.

We hope that everyone learned something important during these activities, and we thank all those who helped to make the day a success, and to everyone for their support in keeping our children safe.

Year 9 Trip to Nangkham Beach 13-16 May 2025

Discovering the natural beauty of Khao Wang Tong cave
Discovering the natural beauty of Khao Wang Tong cave

The first school trip to the Donsak and Khanom region has been a great experience for all of us. We have learned a lot about a region that is almost on our doorstep, but still offers many of the delights that people travel to places like Krabi and Phuket to enjoy - beautiful limestone cliffs, quiet beaches, a magnificent cave with incredible stalactites and stalagmites, a waterfall pool in the jungle that was perfect for swimming and jumping, a local artist who has spent 33 years making incredible fish sculptures, views looking out across the jungle and a fabulous natural fish spa that tickled a lot but left our feet feeling fresh and clean. We were lucky to find a small pod of pink dolphins on our boat trip who stayed to say hello for a while - but they weren't so keen on having their photo taken!

In between all these activities, the group enjoyed the luxurious hotel pool and some great meals to keep our minds and bellies happy. Another great excursion to add to our offering for Si Ri Panya students, and a well-deserved break for our year 9 students after working hard for their Cambridge exams.

This much-anticipated event will showcase the creativity, hard work, and confidence of our students, who have been rehearsing with great enthusiasm.
