Si Ri Panya News Highlights (issue 32)
Dec 12, 2025 - Beyond the Spotlight There are two sides to school life: what happens at the front, the things you see when you walk around the campus or pop into lessons to talk to students about their work; and what happens behind the scenes. Our events, deadlines and assessments are visible, but the quiet, steady work that drives school life forward often isn’t. Behind the scenes is where so much of the real effort sits. It could be the determination of a student practising

The festive season is upon us and, whether you celebrate Christmas or another cultural tradition from closer to home, a warm and joyful feeling is beginning to permeate the campus. We especially love this time of year because it brings our shared school values to life. Cooperation, kindness, giving to others, extending an olive branch where it’s needed, and wishing everyone well as we approach the end

Nov 21, 2025 - Upper Secondary Begins Some of you may not realise that the opening section of our weekly newsletter is usually written by Lisa, our Head of Primary. As Lisa has travelled back to the UK for her mother’s funeral, I’m stepping in this week to share a few reflections from the Director’s desk—reflections that have taken me on a rather nostalgic walk through the past twenty years. When I first arrived on Koh Phangan two decades ago with my Thai husband, who was bor

Nov 14, 2025 - Exploring Through Experience This week, students have been busy learning out and about across Koh Phangan. Our Year 3 students visited Nira’s Bakery factory, where they learned how to make sausage rolls and carrot cake as part of our Primary-wide Cooking and Nutrition module. As well as creating delicious food and learning about balanced diets and healthy eating habits, the children gained a valuable insight into the work and preparation that goes into producin

Oct 3, 2025 - Challenge Brings Growth. Our students challenge themselves everyday, but do we challenge them enough? In school, Class Teachers continually challenge themselves to find ways to challenge their students—a bit of a catch-22! They must adapt their teaching to stretch those who are ready to go further, while also lifting up those who need extra support. In doing so, they become true experts in balancing growth for every child. But what about beyond the classroom? Ho

Sep 26, 2025 - Settled and Thriving. Week 4: students are settled in their year groups, have established their routines and are feeling increasingly content. Sep 12, 2025 - Every Voice Counts. The first week of school is always an important time for setting the tone. Together with their teachers, our students agree on class rules and daily values they commit to working on in their relationships with others. In Year 4, Teacher Charles and his class have set a particularly positive example. Their agreements not only show care and respect but also brighten their classroom, making it an inspiring place to learn together. By Week 2, a

Sep 5, 2025 - Courage Begins Here. A proper welcome back to our very special school at the heart of the Koh Phangan community The middle of the week felt like a funny day to return to our wonderful, community-orientated island school. As I stood at the gate, it was really moving to see so many happy, familiar, smiling faces — everyone looking refreshed, a bit taller and somewhat more independent. To see last year’s Yr 6 students in their new secondary uniforms, and to hug tea

May 2, 2025 - May Day Magic. Yesterday was May 1st , May Day in UK, which I was reminded of when sitting near a Banyan tree the other day, which is a tree that has roots which grow down from its branches and blow in the wind. The roots were reminiscent of the ribbons on a May Pole (see above), which traditionally, dancers hold while weaving in and out and around each other until the pole in the middle, is covered in beautiful colourful weaved thread. The dance signifies the
