The Progress We Don’t Always See
One of the interesting things about working in schools is that some of the most important progress is almost impossible to photograph.
We naturally notice the bigger moments: performances, trips, competitions, certificates and results. But education is also built through much quieter moments — a pupil putting their hand up when they might once have stayed silent, returning to a piece of work and improving it, persevering with something difficult, or a teacher noticing that something has not quite been understood and finding another way to explain it.
Progress is often incremental. We may not notice each individual step while it is happening, but over time those small moments become confidence, independence, stronger relationships and academic achievement.
As we settle into the new school year, it is worth remembering that some of the most important work taking place at Si Ri Panya each day is not necessarily the most visible. It is found in the ordinary, repeated moments of learning that gradually add up to something much bigger.
Year 1 and Year 3 Bookworms: Partner Reading
On Thursday, Year 1 and Year 3 joined forces to practice their reading to each other.
This reading-buddy activity does several things, such as build confidence, give students opportunities to read aloud which develops oracy, it strengthens the enjoyment of stories and much more.
Year 1 superstars impressed us yet again by their ability to work sensibly with others across school.
They could be seen fully participating, reading, listening and being all round fantastic Si Ri Panya students! Well done to both classes for modelling excellent behaviour and work ethic.
An Enchanting Delve into Tom's Midnight Garden: Book-Inspired Art and Writing: Year 5
Year 5 have been working hard in English producing writing and art work inspired by their new class reading book, Tom's Midnight Garden by Philipa Pearce.
The book is about a boy called Tom who is sent away to stay with relatives for the summer, because his brother has Measles! The prospect of staying with his uncle and aunt is thoroughly awful and he imagines how boring it will be. Then, lying in bed one night, he hears the old grandfather clock in the hall strike the very strange hour of 13 o'clock. What can it mean?
As Tom creeps downstairs and opens the door, he finds out...a magical garden, a new playmate, and the adventure of a lifetime.
We challenge you to keep exploring reading with your child to encourage them to build their own lifetime love of reading and books.
Years 5 and 6 are enjoying their new class reading books.
Year 3's Supercool Work on The Australian Artist, known as Mulga
This week, Year 3 were in for a treat, when they started to explore the interesting art of the Australian artist, known as Mulga.
Mulga's, whose real name is Joel Moore is a street artist from Sydney, Australia. His work is humourous, fun, vibrant, unique and wild, making it perfect place for our Primary students to begin looking into contemporary artists.
Having previously had a career spanning a decade in finance, Mulga found himself painting murials along Sydney's Bondi Beach and T-Shirts, before giving up his corporate job to become a full time artist! We like the spirit and his funny take on animals doing cool things about town.
Year 4 Mini-Beast Explorers On the Hunt!
Our Year 4 scientists have been diving into the fascinating world of invertebrates! After discovering the unique characteristics of different mini-beast groups in class, students stepped into the schoolyard for a hands-on field study.
They searched under leaves and around garden beds, making detailed scientific sketches of the critters they spotted.
Next week, students will put their field observations to work as they learn how to create and navigate identification keys to classify their found specimens.
Secondary Enrichment - Being Healthy and Creative!
Our Secondary Enrichment includes a Cooking and Life Skills Programme which kicked off this week with knife skills - how to peel and cut various types of fruit, and which tools to use for each job.
To make things more interesting, students used these skills to create culinary works of art ... and then we ate them!
Year 9 Diving Back Into History
Year 9 were given a number of random world events or display posters about different eras as they entered the class, which then they had to sort into chronological order around the classroom.
It was also an opportunity to look more closely at the new classroom display posters and resources which we will be using as we study our different units this year.
New Date - Family Beach Clean with Trash Hero
Last Sunday’s beach clean was unfortunately called off because of the weather, although the Trash Hero team still made it out and showed just how much rubbish remains to be collected.
We will therefore try again on Sunday 27 September, joining Trash Hero Koh Phangan for their next clean.
Students, parents, siblings, friends and staff are all very welcome to come along and help.

Please send healthy snacks only, check regularly for head lice, and keep long hair tied back.
📖 Library Books
Please return any school library books to the Primary or Secondary library.
🎂 Birthdays
Primary birthdays (Years 1–6) are celebrated on Fridays at 2:00 p.m. during Enrichment Time. Secondary birthdays (Years 7–11) are celebrated during tutor time.
